Haliburton Highlands

The pre-Cambrian rock out jut of the Canadian Shield lakefront site is inspiration for the material and colour palette for this modern lakeside cottage. Pale striped sycamore, paralam table, webbed chairs and dark frame details play a supporting lead to the true star- the vista beyond. Concrete and glass, silver lacquer and stainless are balanced by the warm jatoba and mahogany flooring and millwork. Sculptural modern lighting delineates vignettes with the open concept plan. The ship's deck- a bridge between living and bedroom areas, allows the family direct access to the natural outcrop of rock beyond. Pesce limestone provides earthy parallels to the raw concrete mantle and hearth. Over sized club chairs, easy living fabrics and cushy ottomans ground an otherwise airy living space and invite pause and relaxation.
